Sami Yaffa

Bassist Sami Yaffa started his career in Helsinki  in 1980 with the legendary finnish punk band Pelle Miljoona OY at the tender age of 16, recording the album “Moottoritie on kuuma” which is now part of Finnish R’n’R history .

In September 1980 Hanoi Rocks was born, followed by a move to Sweden and later to London. Sami recorded and toured the world with Hanoi for the next 4 years till the bitter end at the end of 1984.

1985 – 1986 turned out to be a more quiet period musically with occasional performances with Johnny Thunders and Jerry Nolan. Also recording an EP with a Swedish Rock musician Pelle Almgren but mainly concentrating on raising his new born son.

1987 saw Sami moving to Los Angeles and joining the band Jet Boy for the next 3 years, becoming part of the budding LA music scene and touring in US and Japan and recording 2 albums for MCA records.

1990 Sami packed up his stuff and moved to NYC to re-connect with Hanoi Rocks singer Michael Monroe, recording and touring for the next 5 years, creating 2 albums with Michael as Jerusalem Slim and Demolition 23.

1995 – 1997 was spent in Spain creating the band Mad Juana with his then wife Karmen Guy, destroying all concepts of previously learned R’n’R habits and creating a new and unique sound and outlook on making music which continues to this day. Mad Juana has released 4 albums: “Skin Of My Teeth” (1997), “Acoustic Voodoo” (2002), “Bruja On The Corner” (2006) and “Kumpania” (2010)

1997 saw a move back to NYC where Mad Juana started performing locally and touring internationally, which continues to this day.

2002 Sami joined the infamous NYC Hardcore punk group Murphy’s Law for a half year of chaotic and cataclysmic performances, touring Japan and the US.

2003 Sami joined the legendary Joan Jett &The Blackhearts for the next year and a half of touring, touring and touring with the hardest working lady in show biz.

2004 Sami got kidnapped by the New York Dolls, the progenitors, creators and architects of punk rock’n’roll whose influence on Rock music is undeniably huge. Influencing the likes of The Clash, Sex Pistols, Guns and Roses etc…

With the New York Dolls Sami created 2 brilliant albums ”One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This”(2006) and “Cause I Sez So”(2009) so far.

From 2009 on Sami has been playing with Michael Monroe.

In 2011 they released the album “Sensory Overdrive” which received “Album Of The Year” at the Classic Rock Magazine awards. The song”78” was chosen as the “Rock song of The Year” by iTunes USA, and “Little Steven’s Underground Garage” Radio Show chose “Trick Of The Wrist” as the Coolest Song Of The Year.

2012 is seeing Sami collaborating with Finnish Rap Band “Notkea Rotta” and contributing a re-mix for GG Caravans vinyl release, in addition to recording and touring with Michael Monroe Band.

A line of hats is currently in the works as is a collection of paintings and an autobiography to be released in 2013 if the earth is still here…….
