MICHAEL MONROE – force of nature, multi-instrumentalist and legendary rock ‘n’ roller – has issued a new single / video, ‘Old King’s Road’, through Spinefarm Records on September 4th.
Shot through with the same drive and spirit as ‘Ballad Of The Lower East Side’ from 2013, ‘Old King’s Road’s sees Michael casting an eye over his early career in London.
For the accompanying video, Monroe and band travelled to Brighton, on the UK’s south coast and London, with director / photographer Ville Juurikkala, a man known for capturing rock ‘n’ roll in the raw; Juurikkala has previously worked with some of Finland’s most full-tilt rockers, including Monroe himself. ‘Old King’s Road’ is taken from Monroe’s latest studio album, ‘Blackout States’, the follow-up to ‘Horns And Halos’ – a Finnish chart-topper in 2013. Produced by Chips Kiesbye (Hellacopters, Nomads, etc.) and mixed by Petri Majuri, ‘Blackout States’ features 13 new tracks and is set for release on October 9th, also through Spinefarm.
As with ‘Horns…’, these new recordings see Monroe both looking to the future and honouring the past, with songs such as ‘R.L.F’ and ‘The Bastard’s Bash’ showing no mellowing of attitude or intent…
“I’m extremely excited about our new album,” says the front-man. “It has all the ingredients of a perfect rock ‘n’ roll record – strong melodic songs with great meaningful lyrics that defy all cliches, delivered with a punky, ballsy attitude by a killer band. I highly recommend ‘Blackout States’ to anyone who’s even a little bit interested in what real, authentic, high energy rock ‘n’ roll at its best sounds like today.”
In celebration of the album’s release, Monroe will embark on a European tour that will see Monroe & band visiting the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy & Switzerland as well as Finland.
