Legendary singer Michael Monroe has released a new music video for “Goin’ Down With the Ship” from Monroe’s 2015-released album Blackout States. The video arrives just as Monroe and his band hit U.S. shores for a two-week tour.

“The song is not necessarily about sailing or seamanship as such,” Monroe explained. “It’s basically about us getting on the tour bus and hitting the road with our band. Ville Juurikkala, who shot the videos for ‘Ballad of the Lower East Side,’ ‘Stained Glass Heart,’ and ‘Old King’s Road’ has done this new one, too. It was pretty easy to make and includes some footage shot by the band while we were on tour.

“I think the video has a good vibe and we’re all happy with the way it turned out. Hope you enjoy it!”

With all that in mind, it’s time to go down with the ship!

New single and music video “Old King’s Road” out now!

by Rich ~ September 4th, 2015

MICHAEL MONROE – force of nature, multi-instrumentalist and legendary rock ‘n’ roller has issued a new single / video, ‘Old King’s Road’, through Spinefarm Records on September 4th.

Shot through with the same drive and spirit as ‘Ballad Of The Lower East Side’ from 2013, ‘Old King’s Road’s sees Michael casting an eye over his early career in London.

For the accompanying video, Monroe and band travelled to Brighton, on the UK’s south coast and London, with director / photographer Ville Juurikkala, a man known for capturing rock ‘n’ roll in the raw; Juurikkala has previously worked with some of Finland’s most full-tilt rockers, including Monroe himself. Watch the video below!

‘Old King’s Road’ is taken from Monroe’s latest studio album, ‘Blackout States’, the follow-up to ‘Horns And Halosa Finnish chart-topper in 2013. Produced by Chips Kiesbye (Hellacopters, Nomads, etc.) and mixed by Petri Majuri, ‘Blackout States’ features 13 new tracks and is set for release on October 9th, also through Spinefarm.

As with ‘Horns…’, these new recordings see Monroe both looking to the future and honouring the past, with songs such as ‘R.L.F’ and ‘The Bastard’s Bash’ showing no mellowing of attitude or intent…

“I’m extremely excited about our new album,” says the front-man. “It has all the ingredients of a perfect rock ‘n’ roll record – strong melodic songs with great meaningful lyrics that defy all cliches, delivered with a punky, ballsy attitude by a killer band. I highly recommend ‘Blackout States’ to anyone who’s even a little bit interested in what real, authentic, high energy rock ‘n’ roll at its best sounds like today.”

In celebration of the album’s release, Monroe will embark on a European tour that will see Monroe & band visiting the UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy & Switzerland as well as Finland.

MICHAEL MONROE – hugely influential front-man, force of nature, multi-instrumentalist and revered rock ‘n’ roll icon – releases new studio album, ‘Blackout States’, on October 16th 2015 via Spinefarm Records; this 13 track outing, produced by Chips Kiesbye (Hellacopters, Nomads, etc.) in Gothenburg, Sweden, and mixed by Petri Majuri in Helsinki, Finland, is the follow-up to ‘Horns And Halos’ – a Finnish chart-topper in 2013.

With ‘Blackout States’, Monroe’s current touring and recording outfit – bassist Sami Yaffa (ex-Hanoi Rocks/New York Dolls), guitarist Steve Conte (ex-New York Dolls/Company Of Wolves), guitarist Rich Jones (ex-Black Halos/Amen) and drummer Karl Rockfist (ex-Chelsea Smiles/Danzig) – provide strong creative support for a ground-breaking artist whose reputation continues to flourish, with many of rock‘n’roll’s most noted performers (including Dave Grohl and Slash) citing his unwavering drive and three-decade-plus career as a genuine source of inspiration.

Indeed, when Slash headlines the Ice Hall in Helsinki on May 28th, Monroe will be the invited Special Guest, opening the show in front of thousands of fans; after that, he heads across to London to play the Camden Rocks Festival on May 30th – this one-off UK appearance (at Camden Proud) will be filmed by celebrated videographer/ photographer Ville Juurikkala as part of the video for the first single from ‘Blackout States’.

As with ‘Horns And Halos’, the new recordings see Monroe both toasting the future and honouring the past, occasionally giving the nod to glam punk pioneers, Hanoi Rocks, the group he forged his name with in the early-to mid-’80s.

Says Monroe: “I’m extremely excited about our new album, ‘Blackout States’. It has all the ingredients of a perfect rock‘n’roll record – strong melodic songs with great meaningful lyrics that defy all clichés, delivered with a punky, ballsy attitude by a killer band. I highly recommend ‘Blackout States’ to anyone who’s even a little bit interested in what real, authentic, high energy rock‘n’roll at its best sounds like today.”

Monroe has a number of festival appearances locked into place for the spring / summer, with further international touring plans to be announced shortly.
