Q: What do you think about Andy´s movie? Has it anything to do with  the real Andy?

M: I haven’t seen the whole thing so it’s hard to say.

Q: Because you´re such a great singer and well known in music business, have you ever been asked to join into any "big name" bands?

M: Yeah, sort of, but I won’t mention any names.

Q: What books/writers you would recommend?

 M: Try William Burroughs.

Q: According the "Cronological Crue"-website you were supposed to record a song with Mötley Crue for some movie soudtrack in ´85. Is it true and if it is, why didn´t it happen? (I know you don´t like the Crue, but I do and it would have been great!)

M: This is the first I’v ever heard of such a thing.

Q:You can´t be serious that you really like living in such a dull place like Turku ? (have seen you walking there few times-;)

M: In my life there’s never a dull moment...

From: Tiina

M: 4-5 plus the Live album.

Q: who gave that name to your band ? ( hanoi rocks)

 M: Myself.

Q: When are you coming to play in Stockholm ?

M: Don’t know yet.

Q: Are you going to tour with Warrior Soul/Kory Clarke?

M: I’d like to but so far there are no concrete plans.

Q: Which living persons would play in your band if you could choose?

M: I don’t know...Slash is pretty good.

Q: Which DEAD persons would play in your band if you could choose?

M: I wouldn’t play with dead persons. I've already played with the Dead Boys. (ha, ha)

Q: When are you going to move from Finland ?

M: Not anytime soon.

Comments: See you!

M: Yeah, thanks. See you around.

From: Maple Leaf

Q: Millä kielellä kommunikoitte keskenänne Hanoi-aikoina?

M: What language did we communicate in the Hanoi days? With Finnish and English.

Q: Miksi uudessa Hanoi-kokoelmassa kerrotaan Andyn olevan puoliksi ruotsalainen ja mustalainen, vaikka Hulkon poika on kotoisin Pelkosenniemeltä?

M: I don’t know why Andy claims to be part Swedish and part Gipsy.

Q: Suomalaisbändeillä kansainvälinen menestys on usein tyssännyt jo laulujen sanoitusten kielioppivirheisiin ja kehnoon lausumiseen. Saiko Hanoi Rocks koskaan kritiikkiä edellämainituista?

M: Hanoi was never criticized for language mistakes’cos we didn’t make them.

Q: Miltä tuntui laulaa Rene Bergin laulun sanoja "You gotta have a fast car if you wanna take me home" (Vaikkakin laulun kuvitteellinen päähenkilö oli tyttö) Razzlen traagisen kuoleman jälkeen? Mitä mieltä yleensä olet myöhemmin Lean on Me- cd:llä julkaistuista demoista?

M: I didn’t feel nothing and wasn’t even thinkin’ when I was singing stupid Rene Berg’s stupid fucking song. I was numb with devastation. Those demos should not have been released in the first place ‘cos they’re not really Hanoi .

M: I haven’t heard those bands.

Comments: Kiitos hienoista sivuista ja musiikista

M: Thank You.

From: Petri

Q: Henkilökohtainen mielipiteesi bootleg-levyistä?

Onko se artistin riistoa vai kunnianosoitus artistia kohtaan?

M: What do I think of bootlegs?

The quality is usually shitty. I’m not very happy about somebody bootlegging me...at least they could get me a copy. Like somebody had the nerve to sell a bootleg of my gig through my own website. That’s pretty fucked, when I was flat broke myself at the time.

Q: Ehkä liian aikaista kysyä mutta ... milloin tullee seuraava albumi? Onko tiedossa mahdollisesti kokoelmaa, liveä tai jotain siltä väliltä?

M: New studio album next year with new songs.

Q: Mietin tuossa juuri levyttämiäsi Stiv Batorsin kappaleita. Ne ovat kaikki joko Stivin sooloilta tai Dead Boys kaudelta. Eikö Lordsien tuotanto kolahtanut Mr. Monroelle?

M: Yes I do like the Lords Of The New Church material as well as Stiv’s solo stuff. I just haven’t happened to record it.

Q: Ammatillinen mielipiteesi A.McCoysta biisien kirjoittajana?

M: My professional opinion about A. McCoy as a songwriter?

Very talented but worked much better when he had a partner.

Q: Mitä saamaasi kunnianosoitusta arvostat eniten?

M: What sort of a tribute do I value the most?

Well, I have this certificate from the United Nations expressing its great appreciation to “Artists United Against Apartheid” (Which I am part of) for its valuable contribution to the international campaign for the elimination of apartheid and the estblishment of a non-racial and democratic society in south Africa (The Sun City record).

Comments: Kiitos '90-luvun parhaasta levystä (Peace of Mind) maailmassa. (Joka jostain syystä kolahti allekirjoittaneelle vasta 4 vuotta julkaisemisensa jälkeen!)

M: Thank You.

Kiitos Markulle näistä sivuista!

From: Michael Hollamby

Q: Mike, when are you playing London again ?...we miss you!

M: As soon as possible.

Q: I read you used to live around Portobello Road ,as I always have,I never saw you...Where was it?

M: Arundel Gardens between Ladbroke Grove and Portobello. Number 31 or 39 or something at the Ladbroke Grove end.

Q: Who cut your hair when you lived in London ?Are they still working?

M: I cut it myself a lot. Couple of different people...I don’t know what happened to them.

Q: Will there ever be any more Hanoi stuff released on video?

M: I don’t know. I doubt it.

Q: What are the best clothes shops in Helsinki ?

M: I don’t shop there that much, but I’ve found some good stuff in UFF.

Comments: Syay Free.

M: Thank You.

From: Marky

Q: Have you ever met Keith Richards?  If so....any good stories?

M: Yes I have.

Just his eyes told me a million stories...

Q: Have you seen Andy McCoys film?  If so..is it any good?

M: I’ve seen parts of it. It looks interesting.

Q: Do you have any inside information about what really happened to Johnny Thunders in that hotel room?

M: No.

Q: Which is better?   Exile on Main Street or Sticky Fingers? Discuss....

M: No point comparing them. I think they’re both good. I prefer “Goat’s Head Soup” to both of them, though.

Q: Which is better?  Village girl or 11th street kids?  Discuss....

M: A matter of taste.

Thank You.

From: Jack Morrison

Q: When is your next album coming?

M: Next Year.

Q: Do you buy much  records?

M: Not that many new ones.

Q: What was last one?

M: I bought Nazareth ’s “Loud’n’ Proud” album for a friend who doesn’t know the band.

Q: What do you think from new GN'R or this coming album "chinese demockracy"?

M: I know nothing about it.

Q: Are you doing any videos?

M: Not right now at least.

From: Irina.Silverpoison

Q: koska Mike tulet taas Hämeenlinnaan, meillä on ikävä?

M: When will I come to Hämeenlinna? Probably not for a while’cos I PLAYED there so many times. But...soon enough.

From: Make

Q: I know that for examle Slash has asked some years ago you to join his band but you didn't because of Demolition. There is quite many rockers that could be interested to rock with you. Why you don't contact them (for example Slash)?

M: Slash has already got a singer.

From: Sam

Q: When I lived in England I used to go to book stores and find something interesting to read. Hanoi Rocks was mentioned in many rock encyclopedias but under "heavy metal" category. So, even if they gave you guys credit they still got it wrong. Nice, innit?

M: I never considered us being “heavy metal”.

I guess they had to use some category...

Q: "Not fakin' it" is a brilliant album. It differs from the stuff you're doing now. The atmosphere on the album is more melodic and lighter than on "Peace of Mind" and "Life gets you dirty". Are you into harder stuff with

more edge nowadays or do you just like to experiment? Have YOU changed from rock to hard rock? (Well, I suppose rocks are hard anyway;)

M: I’ve, always rocked hard. I think I'm better than before.

Q: What do you think of Andy's solo efforts, such as "Building on tradition" and "Briard"?

Any comments about Nasty Stenfors' "Vinegar Blood"?

M: I’ve only heard a little bit of it and I wasn’t really blown away. Briard used to be a good punk band in the late 70’s. I haven’t heard this new album, except one song on TV which was nothing special. Same goes for Vinegar Stenfors.

Q: When Hanoi toured Sweden , England and Japan etc. for the first time, I think it must've been very exciting for young punks like you to go to a new country for the first time, to break boundaries and raise some hell. Do you still have that kinda feeling? Or are you used to it now, is it just routine? Can one ever get used to it?

M: I still get excited, it’s never a routine for me.

Q: If you could turn back time and go back to year 1980, what would you do

differently?

Or do you believe in che sara', sara'?

M: Probably nothing. I’d do the same things.

Comments: The hardest thing is to be yourself in a world where everyone else wants you to be like everyone else.

Be yerself. Be Michael Monroe. Thanx. :)

M: That’s so true, unfortunately. Stay strong!

 Love & Respect. Thank You.

From: Xan

Q: Which, and for what reasons, were the best and worst gigs you've ever played?

M: Hi Xan!

My best gig was my last show. The worst I can remember was Hanoi at the Venue in London
in -82 I think it was...All the labels were there to check us out. Me and Andy had been “Rocket Fuelling” for about 3x24hours and the guy who was going to take care of us let us down. Andy was out drinking’til at the last minute he showed up just before we went on.

Q: You've never had a manufactured image but your look did change noticably in the mid-90s, more simple and subdued. Did this reflect your mood at the time and have you returned to the glitter and glitz because it's what suits your personality most?

M: The way I dress reflcts my moods as well as what suits me the most.

Q: Why were there no interviews with you in major US/UK rock mags to promote Life Gets You Dirty? Does the general lack of press response in some places which previously printed a lot frustrate you?

M: Yes it does. It’s usually up to the record labels of pr. people and such...

Q: Nasty chose to change his career and life by retraining as a pharmacist - you probably

don't like to imagine leaving music professionally but, if you were forced to, how would you change direction and make a living?

M: I would become a cartoonist.

Q: I read that Mick Staplehurst has kept the mixing desk tapes from many Hanoi gigs. Is this true and does it mean fans are unlikely ever to get a chance

to hear those versions?

M: I don’t know. He has already put one out as far as I know...

However, the board mixes always suck because all you can mainly hear is the lead vocal, up real dry, and the kick and snare drums. Specially with Hanoi ‘cos the guitars were always so loud on stage already so there wasn’t much of the in the pa.

Comments: Please make sure the forthcoming Hanoi boxset looks as good as it will sound by having good packaging, unreleased or rarely used Hanoi photos. Informal would be particularly fun and special. Please, none of the same-old, used a million times, promo shots!!

M: I’ll do the best I can...it is not really within my control.

From: Chris

Q: Hey Micheal, thanks for doing the q&a thing.  First off, I am a huge fan of everything you do.  My name is Chris and I am writing from NYC.  I moved to E 3rd street , between 1st and 2nd ave (next to the Hell's Angels NYC Chapter) about a year ago.  Does the neighborhood bring back memories? Anyway, I met some cat at the Edge bar one night and for some reason started talking about Hanoi Rocks, he told me you used to live on this exact same block.  So, no real question here, but do you have any tale or such about your days on 3rd street that you'd like to reminisce about?  By the way, I just read in your newsletter that you may come to the states.  PLEASE drop by NYC for a show, or two or three...I missed your last show here a couple years back at LIFE and have yet to get over it.

M: Wow, East 3rd street between 1st&2nd Avenues. That’s a great block to live on. The best in the city. I have too many stories to write about here and now, after living on that block for about 10 years. Let’s just say life was never boring there. Please send my best regards to Teddy, if he’s still there, and the other brothers. I miss them and the block.

Take care and hope to see you in NYC soon.

-Chris

M: See You soon, I hope.

Comments: By the way, I just saw Sammy Yaffa's band for the first time 2 weeks ago at the Continental, they are called Mad Wauna, or something like that. I hate to say it, but I could not wait for the show to end, the music was very transparent, like background music.  It was like it never went anywhere.  Do you still keep in touch?  He still looks like a little kid.

M: I haven’t kept in touch for a while now.

From: Lisa Diedrich

Q: Michael!  I love your new album.  I'm in Denver , USA .  When will you tour the States?  Make it soon and please come play in Denver !!!!!!!!!!!

M: To tour the States?

I’m supposed to before the end of the year.

Q: Michael, I saw Alice Cooper in concert this past weekend and he was incredible -- what is your favorite Alice Cooper album and have you heard his new album Brutal Planet?

M: Yeah, I really like his new record but my favorite would have to be “Love It To Death” or “Killer” or “Billion Dollar Babies”. Well, all of them, with the original band.

Q: What other groups are you listening to these days?

M: Warrior Soul, old AC/DC with BON SCOTT, Nazareth, Rolling Stones, Cheap Trick, Thin Lizzy, CCR, Kate Bush, Marianne Faithful’s “Broken English” album...Pink Floyd

Q: What was it like touring with Iggy Pop?

M: It was great. My shows were early in the evening, but I didn’t mind.

Comments: again, please tour the USA sooooooon!

M: Yes, Thank You.

From: Virta Hepo

Q: Punainen Toyota Corolla kurvaa lähiöpubin eteen. Karvanopat ja Wunderbaumit näkyvät likaisen tuulilasin lävitse. Ovi aukeaa ja ulos astuu amisviiksinen Michael Monroe tuulipukuun verhoutuneena, valkoiset tennissukat ja purjehduskengät eli ristikko-Spedet jalassa, vyölaukku ja kännykkä vyötäröllä. Päässään hänellä on Karjalan mainoslippalakki, jossa lukee "Suomi jääkiekon maailmanmestari 1995". Pian kaarasta ulostautuu myös Michaelin ystävä Konrad teekkarihaalareissa lenkkimakkaraa mutustellen ja Lapin Kultaa siemaillen.

Hän pyytää Michaelia vääntämään kättä auton konepellillä, jotta he voisivat katsoa "kumpi on kovempi jätkä."

Mitä mieltä olet asiasta?

M: Very funny! Really. Oletpa hauska! Kiitos naurusta.

Thanx for the laughs. I couldn’t begin to translate...

Q: Michael Monroe on valittu kansanedustajaksi. Mitä tapahtuisi eduskunnan täysistunnossa?

M: Michael in the Parliament. What would happen at a meeting? Probably nothing as usual.

A lot of talk with fireworks.

Q: Entinen mäkihyppääjä Matti Nykänen on myynyt kultalevyn Suomessa. Pidätkö asiaa irvokkaana?

M: Se kertoo jotain Suomen kansasta.

Q: Viime keväänä olit vieraana MTV3:n "Koivula ja Tähdet"-musiikkiohjelmassa. Ohjelman loputtua artistit kerääntyivät lavalle yhteislaulua varten. Kappaleeksi oli valittu "Puhelinlangat laulaa".

M: En kokenut.

Koitko sen olevan yksi urasi tähtihetkistä? Vai huomasitko jälleen kerran, että tämä katajainen kansa ei ole paljoa oppinut vuosien varrella? Ainakaan musiikkimaun suhteen.

M: No, makuasioista ei kannata kiistellä.

Q: Onneksi on olemassa Michael Monroe. Värikkäitä ja lahjakkaita persoonia ei ole koskaan liikaa.Kiitos ja hyvää yötä.

M: Kiitos sinulle. Thank You.

Q: What do you think about using drugs?

M: I wouldn’t recommend them for anybody, especially alcohol. That’s one of the worst drugs and is deceiving 'cos it’s legal…

Q: Do you think having children is one of the reasons for living

M: If you’ve brought one into this world you better fuckin’ take good care of it. To have a child in order to save a relationship is completely wrong and unfair. I think the world is too fucked and there’s too many wrong and unfair. I think the world is too fucked and there’s too many people here as it is.

Q: Which do you prefer; countryside or city?

M: A City nowadays. The countryside is nice to visit.

Q: If you are all alone one evening. What do you chose to do among these four things? Reading , watching TV, listening to records or playing guitarr?

M: Playing guitar of listening to records.

 M: Thank You.

From: Miikka

Q: Do you read books? If you do, what are your all time favourites?

M: Nowadays I don’t read that many books. Mostly Rock’n’Roll books.

Q: Do you still remember, what was the name of your first song? Have you wrote any finnish language songs ever?

M: No. No.

Q: You're the number one performer in the world and so much better in every area than in Hanoi Rocks days. Do you feel you still get better every day as a performer and musican?

M: Oh, thank you. Yes I do, absolutely.

Q: You have influenced a lot to me as a songwriter. I've been your fan since 1984, but when I first time saw you live at Tavastia Club 1994, it really changed my "musical point of view"! :) Thank you so much!

M: That’s cool. I’m very flattered. Thank You ever so much.

Q: If you'd had to write a new verse to 'Nothing's Alright' to discribe the 'Nineties babies', how would it go??? :)

M: I’ve already been asked this once. I said I don’t have time to think, but how about this:

“Born in the age of mobile phones, Mommy & Daddy is the Internet..”

Comments: Keep doing the great job!!! (both, Michael and Markku)

M: Thank You.

From: Thomas Wallberg

Q: I've found 2 for me unknown cd's with you, is itsomething new or is it just bootlegs?

I can only remeber the name of one : "As far as I can see" and the label was: "Orchard"

M: Are you sure they’re by me? I have no Idea what they could be…

Q: Are you working with some new cd ?

M: Yes, my next album.

Q: I saw that have been working with Hardcore Superstar, did you sing or play any instrument ?

M: Yes, we recorded a cover of an old Alice Cooper song “Long Way To Go” I ended up singing it and doing one guitar track, but I haven’t heard the final mix, so I’m not sure what exactly is on it.

Q: I miised you when you played in Sweden last time, when will you get back again?

M: Soon I Hope. No concrete plans as of yet.

Q: Are you a happy person ? In mu eyes , your lyrics are a bit sad and disapointing

M: I am desperately happy…well, the world is sad and disappointing. “Enjoy your misery, it may not last forever…”

Comments: I just wanna tell you that you're the best Rock n' Roll singer there is. And looking forward of seeing you in sweden !!

M: Thank You! Me too! See ya.

Q: Hi came over to finland from the UK ( Nottingham ), not really a place that many Brits visit. Where are the best bars in Helsinki and are there any good rock clubs

M: I’m not an expert, but “Tavastia Club” is a good rock club, so is “Nosturi”. The “Corona Bar has pool tables. Happy Days is not that happy, but at least most people speak English.

From: Deano UK

Q: What is it about The Hanoi Rocks that makes you Need to Dance Naked with a Sleazy Rock Chick till 6am every night ???

M: You sound like someone with experience. Suppose you tell me?

Q: That’s a very nice shirt your wearing there Michael, wherever did you get it from ? (Seriously) !

M: What shirt and where. Right now I happen to not wear any shirt, but Hang on…Ok, now I’m wearing a pink crushed velvet t-shirt. Perhaps you mean my newest CD-cover…That shirt was made by Sonda Weber in New york .

Q: Was @ a great Rock Night recently and had such a fantastic time but it struck me as such a shame that we seem to be a dying breed, what are your thoughts on this Mike ?

M: All exellent things are as difficult as they are rare…

Q: Have you ever been into the Wildhearts and do you ever bump into Ginger on your travels ?  Seems to me your styles of sound are very complementary and would make a touring marriage made in heaven, particularly as he has a Solo Album ready to tour !!!

M: I met them in Japan with Backyard Babies a little over a year ago. A nice bunch of guys.

Why not? Could be cool..

Q: Of all the bars in all the world which would you say was your favourite ?

What the heck do us a top 5 Bars, Clubs n Pubs !

M: What the heck?…well, darn..I’m just not into drinking and pubs but my favorite place of all time has to be the Telephone Bar&Grill in New York City (2nd ave.Bet.10th&9th streets).

Comments: This is not a question but the number 57 has some significance for you doesn’t it !

M: Could be, but not that I’m that much aware of…Why?

Thank You.

Q: Hi Michael...I was fortunate enough to see you at the 9:30 club in D.C. and Hammerjacks in Baltimore (GREAT shows!)on your U.S. tour for the "Not Fakin It" Album. Hammerjacks is long gone, but is there any chance of you hitting the Baltimore/D.C. area on an upcoming U.S. Tour?

M: Yes, there is. Or at least somewhere near there. I love Baltimore , besides it is Jude Wilder’s hometown.

I have totally undertoured the States but I’m working on fixing that right now.

Q: If the U.S. tour happens, who would you like to tour with?

M: Who ever, as long as it makes sense and it’s not somebody completely obnoxious.

Q: In my opinion, good music/bands are HARD to find these days....any recommendations on who I should check out?

M: Yeah, in case you haven’t: The Ruts “The Crack” (The first album) or there’s a cd with both 2 albums they made including singles called “You Gotta Get Out Of It”, which is the best thing to get by them.

Check out Warrior Soul, The Damned, Mott The Hoople, Nazareth (“Loud’n’Pround, “Razamanaz”, “Rampant” etc., The Heavy Metal Kids (“Kitsch”) plus singer Gary Holton’s solo stuff.
