But, Andy McCoy is the answer to all Rock-N-Roll. He does not have to poise in order to look cool. He knows exactly what to wear and everywhere you look there is a Andy McCoy want-a-be who will never be. Although my hats do not look as good on me as yours do on you Mr. McCoy, my hats off to you anyway sir!!! Mr. McCoy will live forever for those of you who love him and will haunt those of you who do not. Without him, you would be listening to clean, perfect, in-tune music that only average people listen to. Andy yritti yhdessä vaiheessa kyllä kepin vireeseen saada, mutta ei edes siinä onnistunut kunnolla... l.u.v. bomber - Sunday, July 22, 2001 at 23:36:27 (EET DST) If Andy McCoy is the answer, it must be a hell of a stupid question... the crowd nowdays only comes to the shows to see if this famous "moviestar" and living wreck still can handle the guitar and remember his own songs. Andy hasn't really been anything after Hanoi Rocks, and especially in last 5 years. He has made only couple new albums, and the songs are not anything more than mediocre. His gigs... well, if you can call plying for 25 Finnish drunks a gig... Michael can still sell out a place, and the atmosphere in his shows is something completely different than what it has been in Andy's. Maybe Andy wrote most of Hanoi's hits - or maybe he just got the credits when they really belonged to Mike - but after Hanoi Mike has made many songs that I like better than any Hanoi song, and once again, what has Andy done after Hanoi? River of Dreams and Strung Out are probably the only decent songs... I like Andy, and he absolutely still has the talent and skill. When you're doing a concert like Ruisrock was. It is really important to show that you still have the skill and your show is good. Getting on the stage completely trashed is not the right thing to do. I know these guys can still be just as good as Hanoi was back in the day, but it requires two sober guys, doing their best. It's certainly fun to see Andy drunk on the stage telling his jokes, but it won't work on the long run or longer tours (or studio). All the best for you both, I hope you'll rock Ankkarock! Peketsi USA - Sunday, July 15, 2001 at 01:34:52 (EET DST) My condolences to you Michael. No words can help or heal what you are feeling I am sure. Pete <pweijo@hotmail.com> Jämsä, Finland - Wednesday, July 11, 2001 at 13:51:48 (EET DST) I just want to thank for the great show in Ruisrock and especially because of that miraculous feeling I had when Michael gave me his autograph after the gig. My condolences to Your sorrow. I never understood any personality cults. Maybe that's because I never believed in Father Christmas. My best friend and only true love - as long as seventeen years old person can say so - has been some sort of fan of Mike&Andy and Hanoi Rocks' music for some time now. In my opinion her muffs and stuff where gute but also bit childish. For me Andy McCoy was that weird oddity who got his new legos and I was jealos to Mike Monroe because he seems to be able to do splits anytime and anywhere. I wish I were as nimble and energetic as he is! Still I found they were just few freaks from 80's - interesting persons but nothing special to me. Ruisrock was the first time I really listend Hanoi Rocks' music and I was surpriced. I kind of understood that I hadn't understood anything if you can see what I mean. It felt weird and very special. By accident I happend to hang in the vicinity when Mike gave his autografs after the gig to some fans who had been waiting it for a hour or something out side of the backstage. I shouted me friend to give me some piece of paper - any piece of paper - and some kind food hutch guys gave us a paper plate. I told Mike about my friend who went to see his gig eventough she was sick and ofcourse he consented to write his name one more time. I spoke some Finnish, he spoke some English. Mike was beautiful. Mike was charismatic. At the moment Mike was all. Ofcourse it was partly because of my fever, fatique and stress but for a moment I knew what it was to be a fan. I was about to cry. Jude's death, Ruzzle's death, my grandmother's death; mortality. That night I found myself wandering exhausted in Ruissalo national park, singing lullabys in Ruissalo Camping's shower bath and after all sleeping in Turku railway station. All the time I clasped to my breast that paper plate where Mike had wrote "Life on a plate" and I felt it was guarding me like the Virgin Mary icon. Well, that was a long story for guest book, but I wanted to share it with all you silly people who read this and especially with mr. Michael Monroe, I hope You'll read this some day. (Sorry for my English.) I think I won't ever get in Hanoi Rocks' world - maybe I should have been born ten years earlier - but that what I told about was a beautiful experience to me. Having been a huge fan since 13,(now 30) it was an opportunity I couldn't miss. I paid a bloody fortune to take myself and the wife (not a fan as such)from cloudy, rainy Leicester, England to see the show. The fact we had five days in total there, with non-stop sunshine was a bonus. Thanks also to Sarah Rock for sending me the ticket without whom I wouldn't have managed to go, and also Parikka Venla at Lippupalvelu ticket service. The show really was fantastic with my all time favourite Until I get you, which was played at my wedding being the highlight. In fact the set list couldn't have been better, although I missed Beer & a Cigarette and Taxi Driver. Personally I thought Andy was fantastic, even the Mrs said he was really good. They are both such strong characters and they both looked the business. I took quite a few photos which I'll be putting on my web page later this month, so I'll let you know about it then. Did anyone tape or video the show? drop me a line if you did, I'd love to hear/see it all over again, God bless you Mike & Andy. P.S: Kari your heart is in the right place, that is all that matters. His playing was totally erratic and clumsy which really shocked me ´cos I´ve seen him playing some killer stuff for instance as Iggy´s tour guitarist. - Monday, July 09, 2001 at 18:18:45 (EET DST) Ruisrock. I suppose I could do this in Finnish but since there seem to be so many fans who communicate in English, I will do it in English. (Nihon no fan, sumimasen. Nihongo mo sukoshi hanasu koto ga dekite, shikashi kore monogatari eigo de kakimashou. Nihongo muzukashii desu neh.) I am not actually, what could be called, Michael Monroe-fan. But - after Ruisrock, maybe to some extent. I genuinely admire the energy and charisma he has. So that is why this report from Ruisrock might not satisfy the hardcore fans. I was also delighted to find through this website a link to Little Steven who is my alltime favourite from -83, and a big inspiration in my way of thinking about human rights, and in general about the principle being nice to people. Further education I have received from my Japanese friends. Anyway, about Ruisrock, the news about Hanoi Revisited inspired me to go for the first time in my life, to a Finnish rock festival. I didn't know why I am so obsessed to see Michael Monroe live, particularly when I don't have any of his records. But I thought the fascination is about his energy... later I found out that is more than that. There were some other interesting bands as well, but it was only Hanoi Revisited that got me near the stage. I have devoted my life to educating and training musicians and young people about loud music and its effects to hearing, so I rarely go near the stage. But don't get me wrong, I love music, music is not noise, but it can still be harmful to your hearing if played loud. I don't seem to keep my thinking together, where was I...? Oh yes, we camped about 5 meters from stage half an hour before the gig, and croud was already there. And people kept coming...The gig was late a bit, but once it started, it really started! Unfortunately I cannot tell about the songs, I knew maybe four, half of them I don't know the names either. But the energy was there. The personnel at the stage had a busy day, since Michael is so alive, and the cord is not keeping up with him. Sometimes, you could just hear his voice, but we could not see him, he was in front off the stage, sometimes he was climbing to loudspeaker towers (which although I know he has tremendeous physics, seemed pretty hazardous, and I for one couldn't breathe until he was safely down). He was all over the place. He played all kinds of instruments. I have now browsed a bit this website, so I better not go to his private life, but we all must now the situation, and I was so impressed how professionally he could perform. I cannot even to begin to imagine the pain he has inside, and yet, he has so much to give to audience. There were encores, the gig was quite long, but still seemed short. The croud wanted more and though we got it, seemed as if nothing would be enough. The band played awesome, Andy McCoy of course, he is a personality too, and guitar and bass players were mostly at the backgound, but made excellent contribution, and the drummer had interesting choreographies, like twirling his drumsticks. All in all, it made me realise why I went there: I love every kind of music, but what is close to my heart is rock music. Rock is what is all about. There are not many excellent live performers, Michael Monroe is no doubt one of them. He has the core of rock roll. This is the first time that I have been so overwhelmed by pure performance. I might still go on with my life without buying the records, but if I get a chance, I will definately go to his concert. It is easy to get people going, who are fans, they have good thing going before the concert, but to get other going as well, it is not an easy task. I have been watching the guitarist semigod Tomoyasu Hotei getting himself to European market. He is very talented, and has the effect making fans from out of nothing, but still, the athmosphere is so different in here and in Japan. It is not an easy task to do...I guess this is what I wanted to say, it was an experience, fantastic journey of rock, and I thank you everyone involved, especially Michael Monroe. And if you see this, I know it is just words, but I sincerely express my condolences. With lots of love, Heli PS. As being thirty myself, it started bugging me when people said about Dingo and Hanoi revisited: "Vielä vanhakin jaksaa"(they still keep going though so old). I mean come on, who is old here? All in all, age is not important, but saying this from the above bands is ridiculous. Besides, many people get better with age. I am more fascinated by life experience and maturity than face without any wrinkles... PSPS. Michael Monroe talked about being yourself, and not care about thinking what others might say. I hope the quotation is about right. It is important message, and eventhough some might say that it is a cliche, but it is not. Music- and rock is not just about music, it is about life. When I was young I was desperately trying to be accepted, so the individuality went out of the door. Now I am reliving the youth I missed (it was fun, but I hated not being able to wear what I want and say what I want), and in doing so, stronly recommend to de what heart says, and not the people standing next to you. Friends are friends whatever you are. But, of course, respecting other people. And therefore, since I am not exactly on my territory, I hope I have not affended anyone by my comments. But- this is what I honestly think. This is me. Heli <akasha@iki.fi> HKI, Finland - Monday, July 09, 2001 at 11:45:22 (EET DST) good rockin' tonite!!! Like I said I have been very verbally abused on this guest book from many people not just you and I fighting back and forth like little children. I'm mean no Christians don't usual swear. But how much can one person take. How much can you. I'm usual very humble and loyal to God. All I set out doing in the first place is try my hardest threw God word And my own to try to cheer him up. I figured if he herd enough of it. He might start too. I don't know. I think about death in a very different way then any one else. I think of it but nothing more than going to heaven and being joyful and peace full. Are bodies dies but we all have sprits inside and we all live on in heaven. If we are bad enough and not deserving to go we go to hell. I know Jude is in heaven she was Good. And I was trying to have Michael realize this. And Maybe just maybe. He might start to heal. I'm a kind and gentle person if you read my other messages you would see this. But i'm not going to just sit here and take the abuse. I was wrong to use cus words. But it was my only offense. Every one don't like what I have to say about Jesus. So I used words you might understand. Nothing is working. I'm sorry the way I have been acting. I would just like to end now. I have nothing else to say expect. I'm not going to go away. I love Michael to much for that. I hope you all can find it in you heart to forgive me. Have a great show tonight? Silver - Sunday, July 08, 2001 at 12:05:34 (EET DST) Okay, I have to say that I am a little taken aback at all of this immature and completely self-centered rude nonsense in the guestbook below my entry. Although I am a little behind on the news, I just wanted to express my condolensces to Michael for the great loss that he has suffered. I thought maybe everyone here wanted to do the same but apparently some are more interested in attending to their own ideas and wishes rather than showing some respect for Michael during this trying time for him. Anyway, Michael, all of my thoughts are with you now during this difficult time. I hope that you pull through this tragedy to come out even stronger and more at peace with life. Both you and Jude are in my thoughts as always, and your music lives forever in my soul. Fare well for now...
