Guestbook of February 2001

I have'nt seen this on any Hanoi related sites, so I figured I would throw it out there. I have a 5 song e.p. (on CD) by a band called the Dogtown Balladeers from NYC (released in '95). It is on Relative Records (dist. by Perris Records). Michael Monroe and Sammy Yaffa are listed as playing on the album (along with several other guests incl. Shane and Jonathan Daniel from Electric Angels, Brian Forsythe from KIX). Sammy is also listed as producing/mixing 3 tracks. They sound kinda like early Hanoi mixed with Dogs D'Amour and Electric Angels, pretty cool! I am not sure if it is still available, I got it several years ago. Hope you find this interesting. Sorry Michael. "Explanation accepted".Maybe I have blamed wrong person for late showtimes. Late starting time (early morning...) has just seemed to be somekind of a rule at your gigs. As for new year's gig in Säätämö, maybe all Crystal Ecstasys' fans were there by 12 pm except those unlucky underaged fans on their guestlist... The rest tried to avoid the band! And speed, it doesn't keep..., it kills! Anyway, thanks for last Friday, You and Andy rocked at Feenix!

Dear Mike, Being a big fan of yours since before the sad demise of Razzle, I feel compeled to write. I am sorry to hear about your problems with the US tour, being in a band myself I feel apprehensive about going over there, but we do have interest in us by a American record company so some of the problems you encountered might not arise. If you want to hear what we sound like check out www.mp3.com/StickySweet. Well back to why I am writing...After following you to 3 or 4 places when you last toured here. I was a bit disappointed at the gig you did at Bradford Rios not only did you turn up late but you seemed dis-intersted in playing that night. Anyway are there any plans on touring the UK again in the near future.

The venue for the Crystal Ecstasy / Hellacopters gig was very appropriately named: Feenix is Finnish for Phoenix (as in the legendary bird that rises from the ashes). After Crystal Ecstasy's gig, which was great in itself, something that hasn't happened since the spring of 1985 suddenly unfolded itself upon an unsuspecting Turku audience: messrs. Andy McCoy and Michael Monroe hit the stage to perform Tragedy, Taxi Driver and Up around the bend!!! Ecstasy's rhythm guitarist Hiawatha moved to the side of the stage to make room for Andy, and the rest of the guys did an admirable job in keeping the foundation together during the hurricane that followed. At first I pitied the Hellacopters for their daunting task of following up on these guys, but they took the challenge head on, and also played an amazing set. What a night! Here's some related recollections: Andy had a limp when he walked to the stage (apparently due to some sort of complications related to his well-documented fall from the balcony some years back), but seemed to entirely forget about it once the music started and was more animated on stage than I've ever seen before. He also played VERY well, considering the whole event was put together very ad hoc, and decided upon at 6 o'clock that very same evening. The five hours between the decision and showtime were barely enough to have the McCoy's relocate to Turku from Helsinki and pick up some guitars on the way. Practice? That's for the talentless, it seems... It took about half a song for Andy & Michael to prove without the shadow of a doubt that these guys belong together, on a stage that is... The telepathic connection between these guys and the way they complement each other is something that can only be described by comparison with two similar pairs: Steven Tyler & Joe Perry and Mick Jagger & Keith Richards. Staggering stuff! Even if it was only three songs, it was the best concert I've ever seen. Bar none. And I'm dead serious. And objective too. Damn!! There were tentative talks about whether to maybe do something else together also, but definitely NOT ANYTHING CONCRETE. We'll just have to wait and see. Mind you, before yesterday's press conference, the guys hadn't even met in 2 years. But here's hoping... johnny burner p.s. the box set is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!! thank you anssi, you da man!!

Michael you star! You're the last of the true greats! That the world doesn't notice is sadly symptomatic of it's inherent shiteness. It was you and others like you that inspired me to burn my bridges to a "respectable" life and weather the storms of the arse end of rock'n'roll madness! After a short, undistinguished career in rock'n'roll I'm currently considering moving into porn as there's more money in it. However, you are the only person for whom I'd come out of rock'n'roll retirement! AREN'T YOU THRILLED! Alas, I know how you feel about guitar players and their needy egos so I shan't force the issue! Oh Yeah, I was one of the few lucky Europeans who got to see Demolition 23 (Astoria Aug 94).That show fucked me with rock'n'roll! My ass was so kicked I shat pink for a week. The Glammed up Hanoi kids in the audience didn't recognise all these great Dead Boys/Heartbreakers anthems I was moshing my tits off to. You are the best frontman I have ever seen(I've seen Iggy,Jagger,James Brown,Bowie,Johansen,Lux,& others).AREN'T YOU THRILLED! I am destined to see you again I feel. However,I grow restless.Oh, so restless. I'll book you myself if I have to. How hard can it be? I can get you two nights in Dublin & I can provide the soundman & crew. The only catch is you and your band'll have to stay at my place! AREN't YOU THRILLED! That's a serious offer, by the way. I'm not some crank. With my ruthless tactics it'll sell out faster than shit off a shovel. I love your last album (apart from the clumsy attempt at funk where you say "fuck" a lot). You may have indirectly caused me to throw away my education, but I love you for it. Like Stiv said:No Compromise,no regrets. Stay real you fucking STAR. Love&Light James Cain.

Hello Michael :) To the man that makes my life worth living. You are the best! I say this because you took the time to answer my stupid questions not only did you answer them but, you made me smile I ask you if you'd marry me LOL well I loved the answer and wish you and Jude all the happiness in the world. :) You didn't let me down I knew that you'd say no but, the way you said it still makes me smile. If I could reach you I'd hug you but, alas my arms are not that long. heehee soooo (hug) consider yourself cyber hugged :) Love Deb Ps. Michael, your letter is just another example of how much you care for your fans and for all it's worth I really thank you from the bottom of my heart for making me feel that you care. Then again, I knew this already but it's alwas nice to be reminded... I got the tickets for 2 shows at The Troubadour and although Ticketmaster reimbursed my money no problem, I gotta tell you, I never thought that 20 more dollars in my pocket could ever make me that sad! Of course, for the record, I never blamed YOU for a minute, I was just disappointed 'cause I 've really really been looking forward to it since I saw the ad in the LA Weekly and rushed to get my ticket. For the record, also, the guy at Ticketmaster himself was just as disappointed as I was 'cause he was gonna go too, and it kinda made me feel a bit better. I mean, your audience is still here for you, you know! I'm from Argentina and saw you in Buenos Aires last year, what a show! I just hope you make it somehow to California before I leave here, or what the hell, if going to Europe to see you again is what it takes, so be it. Don't waste your time replying to some stupid assholes writing shit in your message board, we the real fans KNOW, and we will always be here for you. Thanks for your art, it does mean a lot to us. Love and Light and Rock n

Michael- THANK YOU SO MUCH for that wonderful & enlightening letter. It was SOOOOO good to hear your side of the touring problems & all the stuff you've had to put up with. I sincerely hope & pray that someday (hopefully soon) that the touring situation & details can be worked out in a beneficial way for you to come to the States and do another tour. It's been so frustrating- I got my hopes up & planned around the tour dates that were announced, only to have them be cancelled. I just was so excited about seeing you & Jude again after 11 years. I wish I could come see a show in Finland, but financially that isn't an option. Well please know that you are dearly loved, missed & adored as you have always been a treasured friend to me. I will continue to wait as patiently as possible for you to tour the States, although it's so hard! I want to "rock viciously" again just like in Japan- haha! You and Jude are the BEST and I miss you as much as ever. "Keep It Up" and never forget I'll always be your number one fan- that I will promise with all my heart. Hang in there Mike, and keep us posted. Don't pay any attention to the negative fucks. Fuck them. I was fortunate enough to catch your T.O. shows last time and it was awsome, you hung out after the show and signed a tonne of autographs and albums and had your picture taken, not too many people would of taken the time you took with your fans, so it was greatly apprieciated. I hope everything eventually comes together for you, and you can always count on your real fans for support. We'll always be there. So keep it real and keep rockin'. Cheers.

So there we have it. If we got more "official statements" like this we wouldn't have to guess and assume. Now tabloids are the only source of "news" (besides rumours), so what do you expect!? And I'm glad you got yourself a work permit, even though you are a... (you know what). Anyway, I wish you better luck in the future. I'm sure you'll be touring the US before too long.

First of all I think I have to apologize Mr. Monroe. I broke the rule #1 when posting to Internet, I should have read again (or at least read) what I wrote. My point was that since you've get caught driving under the influence of drugs it might cause some problem when you try to get a Visa or some other papers to get to the States. I know I should have used some other words, my bad! The users on your guestbook started to wonder what's wrong with your tours here in USA, you're right when you said there never was any official information about your tour here in your pages, but on November 17th your webmaster wrote that your tour in USA is cancelled and more information is to follow. Nothing new appeared on the pages after that, and then again, on January 20th, we got news about your tour been cancelled and that your statement is coming soon. Naturally your fans started to wonder what's fucked up this time and posted some possible(?) reasons. It is pretty darn hard to guess what's going on behind the stages, I don't think any of us had any idea what was happening. The only information about your problems with the law was the crap we read on newspapers, after I read your version I understood you way better, I just hope you posted it earlier. Anyway I'm sorry 'bout the words I used, way too many misunderstandings caused hat. I agree that anything you do on your private life or any drugs or other stuff you do has nothing to do with your music. On the other hand, there's this one Mr. Mccoy... ;-) I really love your music and I was very disappointed I didn't get to see you here in USA yet. Once again I really wonder why some of us have so bad luck, with all talent and skills you have, with a little better luck, you could be doing so much better if we're talking 'bout the album sale and fame. Definitely you want to do the things your way, and I think that is what makes you so great and special, but sometimes it is so much easier just to go with the system and do everything the easy way. You are an awesome personality and your music means much to me, I'm sorry for all the harm I caused (like you give a fuck about what I said anyway :-) I hope you the best luck in the future, hopefully one day we can see you succeeding the way you deserve. Dead, Jail or Rock 'N' Roll!!! Always your fan, Peketsi

Hej Mike! Dessutom när Du inleder Until I get you med orden "This is a song about a girl... and a...very beautyful boy{All those Wasted years), is it cool or is it COOL?! Med utmärkt högaktning Olle Wikström P.S. Ha det bra!

There's still no statement on the web site from Mr. Monroe regarding the cancelled US tour. Will he or won't he? What's up? What happened and what'll happen next? Not that I want to rush anything, but I'd be interested to know. Any news is welcome...

Anyone who´s into rock´n´roll be informed that the new hanoi Rocks have been born and theyre called Foreign Female. Theyre not the new hr though coz they actually have a very unique point of view on garage rock but if youre willing to experiment on something really astonishing please visit http://www.angelfire.com/celeb/foreignfemale. (and look at the singer who just looks the best

Hi all! I wanna share something that happened on a course last week. It was a one-week course on how to apply for a job and the trainer (a he) showed us a pic of Michael, cut from a newspaper after a gig at Tavastia last fall. Michael wore a red-and-white striped, sleaveless t-shirt and some kind of a cap. He held a guitar and I think he was leaning against a tree. We talked about first impressions, and the trainer asked us if we'd go and listen to music played by someone who looks like this. I said: Yeah, I would, and I have, and Michael works with a "sweat or die" attitude... The trainer tried to make him an extreme example, of course. I said a few words about the gigs and Michael's attitude, and the trainer left it at that. But, as you can imagine, this course will now be even more memorable because of this incident.

Dear "Bite me", maybe I should ask you to bite me... maybe I was made of the leftovers of the dust? ;) I think the same as you, i.e. Michael is a good performer. In fact, the best I've seen live. I wasn't there on Jan 19th so I'm probably also talking about something I shouldn't be talking about. Thanx anyway! A BIG HI TO ALL MICHAEL FANS!

I am bummed my dear! I have an incredible photo that I took of you at Ryan’s the last time you were here (too many years ago I’m afraid) had it blown up for you to sign and I called the rock in St. Paul to find out why they were not making a big deal out of you coming into town! You’re not! I know you are even more upset by the fact that you are not touring here! Touring is great and I would love to go with you! Well, when you do get a chance to come here I will make another copy of the photo I took for your personal inventory and I will make you and your group some brownies or cookies or something. Maybe if you have a day off we can even have a bar-b-que at my house or something fun like that! Hope all is well with you and I miss you! Waiting for a hug, Nancy

I agree, you must have a real management. You must open your eyes and realize - your career have became a fucking cirkus. Cancelled tours, new bandmembers all the time, no videos or promotion for your records from record companies. What is going on ? c´mon Mike you deserve better than this.

Still luvving Michael!!!! I can't wait to see if there's a visit to Northern England at any time. I am still listening to the music. I have just ordered Life Gets You Dirty (at last), but why are there two different prices (£14.99 and £26.99) The record shop couldn't help me with what the difference between the two is. Can anyone tell me or am I just thick? Thanx

Dear. Mr. Monroe, I am writing in hope to get your attention for my question. I'm an englishman stranded somehow in Finland. I live for my music which is pretty much in the style of Hanoi Rocks, G'n'R, Slash's Snakepit etc... I'm broke all of the time, and am having a hell-of-a-hard time trying to make ends meet doing the thing I love and want to do;ROCK'N'ROLL! I have great songs and the motivation to go all the way, but it's bloody hard trying to find the right kind of people to play with. And in Finland the record-industry seems mostly interested in promoting finnish pop music than good'ol 80s rock'n'roll in english... Knowing your hard start with Hanoi in Finland(you kissed the country goodbuy and went to england!!), I am curious to ask for your advice in the matter. I can feel it in my bones, that if only given a decent chance, I could rock the people. I have no money to move anywhere, infact I am fighting day-to-day for something to eat. I'm not giving up on this and if it means I die from cold or hunger then so be it... I have my guitar and songs and that's what I want to do and nothing else! I would appreciate it very much if you found the time to answer me back. Any advice is welcome... I know it's a hard road, but you know that fire burning withing you... Thank you for your time and best of wishes for your future life and career! yours- Sebastian Bow
