The May issue of Classic Rock magazine has a small article about Hanoi's rebirth on page 15. Not worth buying the magazine for it (a cost of £3.25) but worth flicking through on the newsagents shelf. It's basically a rehash of Mike's "good soldiers" statement lifted from this website. Also includes an itsy-bitsy pic of Mike looking as cool as he always does. How come some people can 'do' cool without effort!

I just bought couple a days ago this new single and I think it's good. I know it surely doesn't sound very Hanoi, but c'mon! Everyone who's disapointted of this, think about how long time has come since Hanoi, it's almost 18 years. If these guys had done 100% same sound and same kind of stuff as Hanoi was then, it would have been joke. This single is, I think, very fuckin' good for all. Because Michael Monroe fans like it, as I, cos it's more like Michael Monroe solo single than Hanoi Rocks. I think it sounds more Mike than Hanoi and it's good. Think about Alice Cooper when he stopped playing hard in late 70's and made his comeback in middle 80's, his sound had come full different and in my opinion, it's only good way to make comeback, there just gotta be something new in it. Not a copy from the old things. PEOPLE LIKE ME is fuckin good stuff.

tää nyt ei oo ajankohtaista, vaikka onhan toi ihan kiva biisi se people like me. no kumminkin, jos jollakin olis näitä michael monroen varhaistuotannon levyjä, eli: nights are so long, not fakin it, jerusalem slim ja demolition 23 cd-levyinä niin mä voisin iloisena ostaa niistä kopiot. mulla on kyllä vinyyleinä kaks ekaa levyy, mutta noi kaks seuraavaa puuttuu. eli jos jollakin on cd-r soitin, tai mahdollisuus tehä sellasii niin mä maksasin ihan hyvin jos nyt joku kopsais joitakin noista levyistä mulle jä lähettäs postissa. mä tietysti maksasin sen etukäteen tilille. VITTU PIRATISTI RULES!!!! tässä tapauksessa. vittu mitä kusipäitä idioottejä ne on sielä levy-yhtiöissä kun ei vittu osata levyjä myydä kaupoissa ja sitten vittuillaan ja inistään että rahat menee ohi kun jengi tekee bootleggii/piraattii. en mä ikinä voiskaa myydä kellekkää piraattii esim. life gets you dirtystä tai peace of mindistä koska niitä on kaupoissa ja sillon siinä menis makkoseltaki rahat ohi, mutta eihän tässä keltää mee mitää ohi jos joku tekee piraattii levyista joita ei edes vittu myydä. musta se olis ainaki helvetin kannustettavaa että sellasta hommaa tehtäs tällasissa tapauksissa koska se on ainut mahdollinen paras mielenosoitus/vastalause sille ettei levyjä oo saatavilla.

ABOUT HANOI ROCKS........... **************** Where, or rather, how shall I begin? An almost sad yet necessary tale about an incredible, somewhat virtually unknown quintet fashioning their start in Helsinki, Finland many moons ago. In recent years, Hanoi Rocks have been recognized only because Guns n Roses re-released Hanoi’s albums on their Uzi Suicide label. Nice of ‘em, but it’s almost a rather pitiful way for a band who influenced a lot of amazing (& not so amazing) bands to only be known by the “dumber” generation as “that band on the GnR label”. Fucking pathetic. ***** Sure, Michael Monroe had a hand or shall I say harmonica on “Bad Obsession” on GnR’s Use Your Illusion I after a wilting, would-be critical solo career. It could’ve helped, although, Mike unfortunately hardly made an impact in the states but wallowed in his glory over in Japan. Just as Hanoi did way back when… ** Drug induced hazes and prostitution surrounded Hanoi early on, where they did anything & everything just to live. Mike & Sami Yaffa hailed from Finland, Nasty Suicide & Andy McCoy from Sweden, as well as original drummer Gyp Casino, who was later replaced by the late-great Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley, who was found sachaying beneath the streets of London. Finally gigging in said town, they paved their legendary status with lipstick, eyeliner & menace. The 80’s New York Dolls were born sporting feather boas & shiny leather just like their predecessors. I love them too. Of course, we all know what happened to the Dolls. Their beauty & bile left them addicted & penniless; yet inspirational to us all. ***** Why is it that bands who exude style, elegance & talent are left in the gutter like yesterday’s cigarette butts? Yeah, there are a lot of bands out there, but there will only be one Hanoi Rocks. The obvious sex-drugs n rock n roll sorcery, anti-social behavior & humor reek through their songs like the scent of flowers at a funeral. Not to mention the “threat” they impaled on the listener’s ears. This wasn’t milk & cookies folks, it was Machiavellian…. With whiskey & bullets. Hence their stiflization and the blatant ignorance of the record companies & especially society. Damn you all! **** Gorgeous Hanoi classics like, “Rebel On The Run”, “Sailing Down The Tears”, “Until I Get You”, Back To Mystery City”, “Taxi Drive”, “Underwater World”, etc. never made their way on radio here. So deserving & yet so disregarded. It’s a fucking shame. The song writing and the attitude were Aqua Net hair-sprayed heads as well as shoulders ABOVE anything popular today! Ok, some stuff in the 80’s sucked too. But Hanoi had it all & received practically nothing. ***** Where Are They Now? *Guitarist-Nasty Suicide achieved minimal success with his new band Cheap N’ Nasty. I thought they were fabulous. Haven’t heard anything from them since “Beautiful Disaster”, tho. *Bassist-Sami Yaffa, as most of us know, was in Jet Boy for a time. He also went on to Jerusalem Slim with Mike, who have since disbanded. Sami is now in Walter Lure’s band, The Lures. (Walter used to be in the Heartbreakers with the late Johnny Thunders). *Guitarist-Andy McCoy formed Shooting Gallery with former Kill City Dragons Billy G. Bang & Dave Tregunna (who used to be in Sham 69 then the Lords of the New Church then the Cherry Bombz… what band hasn’t Dave been in?) Now Andy is doing the Andy McCoy something-or-other with his wife (former flame of Izzy Stradlin-formerly of GnR). *Vocalist-Michael Monroe is back in Finland I’m told, still creating viable music, and reportedly has stated he “will never tour the US again”. Although I’m disappointed, can you really blame him? * Drummer-Razzle; most of us know what happened to him. A brilliant drummer who made an unfortunate decision on a Dec night in 1984. Razzle was ruefully killed in a car accident that involved Motley Crue’s Vince Neil. I fucking hate that guy. Mainly because he’s useless. Apart from my opinions, Vince Neil lost control of his car, hit another car on the passenger side-where Razzle was - Razzle was crushed. Vince Neil admittedly did not have a scratch on him. A few years later, Vince Neil’s 4 yr old daughter died of a rare form of Cancer. He stated that he thinks this is punishment for the things he’s done in the past. Sadly, perhaps it is. Karma is a bitch. **** Hanoi Rocks is dead they say…. Or at least Mike’ll tell you that. Maybe so. It would be a wonderful thing if they reformed, at least for a little while. Noticeably, each member hasn’t had that much success with their separate bands. Perhaps Razzle is trying to tell them something from beyond the grave. If not him, then Stiv. I think people like me is a good song, but I don't quite understand, why andy keeps copying him self. The verse melody in people like me is quite the same as in the suicide twins song what a price to pay or it reminds it just too much. Same thing only minor, if you compare andys mind over matter and hanois oriental beat, or hanois two steps from the move song to shooting gallerys house of ecstacy. Same thing with the lyrics for example suicide twins song heaven made you and andys song river of dreams. You may find some similarities, not big ones, but anyway. ok maybe this is unnecessary and nonsense/rubbish, but just wanted to say it. I'm not pissed of by that, just enjoing life & music.

Okay so I heard People Like Me for the first time today (on Audiogalaxy) and my verdict was positive actually, I mean the chorus is a blast and the verses kick ass, but the intro didn´t have the genious Andy McCoy touch of the Eighties. So all I can say is that man these two can still rock like fuck although they may not make classics comparable to Until I Get You or Dead By Xmas. (In all fairness, can you honestly say this is better than the early Hanoi stuff...?)

If the name Hanoi Rocks will get the boys more recognision and gigs, it is not a sell-out. Are you expecting them to live on the blooy dole just to be true and respected?? I would think they will have quite a lot of control over their contracts and management which nowadays is the only way you can fight the corrupt music business. Musicians deserve money like everybody who works hard. People don't seem to notice there are a number of famous bands in the world who have been going for years and they constantly have changes in the line-ups. It seems it is only when a band has split and then reform when people start getting nasty for the protection of their own nostalgia. After all, us fans enjoyed Hanoi Rocks and have nice memories but it is not us who did all that hard work. We like to think we know musicians as people and hang on to every word they say and critisise them when they are not the people we wanted them to be. We DO NOT know them personally. Our personal arguments and mentions of other people in our lives are not publicised all over the press! and we shouldn't expect musicians to be gods either. I find it very amusing that people stop supporting their favourite artist because of they've spotted some imperfection in their personality. Also, lives change, people and environment change...have you not ever changed your mind? Just bloody enjoy the music and stop moaning.

Whee. I got my copy of the single today and I must say that I'm very impressed. Sounds soooo good. And the video is also very cool, not so expensive, but really cool. There was some clips from last summer rock festivals too :) I don't think the other songs in the single are masterpieces, but I've listened the single just a couple of times and I'm pretty sure that I will like that pretty simple song called "lucky" more and more every time I listen to it.. Anywayz, guys are back on track and doing very awesome stuff. It's much more fun to listen to Hanoi from a radio (or mtv;)) than any of those other songs they keep on playing there day after day nowadays..

But I can tell you couple of reasons why I love Hanoi Rocks, even this new one! - They are not the biggest band in the world. Ok. I like KISS and that kind of stuff, but to me Hanoi Rocks is the most important band. -Hanoi did something nobody had done before. They came from Finland and performed like any other real rock band (WASP, KISS etc.) They were even better. -They had absolutely brilliant songs written by Andy McCoy It is still amazing that somebody in Finland is able to do something like that! -They are still the band that started whole scandinavian Glam-Punk-genre... nowadays there are these Hellacopters Backyard Babies etc. I quess that it is same genre that Hanoi Rocks started. After all I don't care what you think... it's not up to you. Hanoi has lots of fans in Finland. That's because we don't forget our idols. For example Andy McCoy has had hard times with drugs and all the other problems but I can tell you HE IS BACK in business... I can tell you Michael, we love your stuff... you rock like a fuck. Don't mind these bollocks!!!

I can't fuckin believe it if you say so, in sweden BACKYARD BABIES last record was number one and also HELLACOPTERS got gold of the last one. and todays kids, just like more and more of rock, HIM, FLAMING SIDEBURNS... there are plenty of rock bands in skandinavia now and they sell good. of course USA doesn't get rock anymore but it's allways been country where only money speaks.. even if they liked rock there, they don't play it because record companys want to spend money onto bands who sell minimum double platinum and even that is flop record todays...
