Just a place where we can jump in with recommendations for each other. Music, Books and films. Whatever.
I'll start.  Wink
Music
I just checked out Prima Donna as I'll see them tomorrow night supporting Green Day. They've got in nice solid mix of styles. Bit of seventies glam rock with a modern twist to it.
www.myspace.com/primadonna
The new Buckcherry album (Black Butterfly) is getting a bit of a critical kicking, but it kicks arse imo and has a damn fine cover of Highway Star on it. There's a special edition out with previous album '15' included and an extra disc of five bonus tracks all for the price of a single album.
Movies
Took my son to see Zombieland and its all very silly. Its the sort of movie that it helps if you leave your brain at the door when you head into the multiplex. Funny cameo in it from Bill Murray that's worth the admission price alone. Although some of the action from Woody Harrelson comes in a close second.

Hey, what a nice topic!
I'm currently listening Prima Donna from MySpace. Sounds just great, I'm definitely going to get to know this band more closely! Thanks a lot for recommending them.

I'd recommend Steve Conte & The Crazy Truth. It's a new band of Steve Conte who's the lead guitarist of New York Dolls nowdays.
The debut album will be in stores in USA, Canada & Mexico on October 20. It will also be released in several countries in Europe on November 23.
I got my copy from Steve in the summer so I can tell it's a great album, go and buy it if you hadn't it already! Or at least listen a couple of their songs from MySpace Wink

I bought the Steve Conte album last time I seen the NY Dolls. It's a killer of an album. There's not one bad track on it.
A friend of mine just interviewed Steve. I'll up the interview as soon as I get the okay from him.
Listen to the new Boss Hoss album if you can. They've really raised the bar with this one.
The last Electric Eel Shock album is very good to.

Mmmmmmm. What else.
Look up a Scottish band called variety Suite. They are playing for me this saturday. They will also send you their 5 track demo for free if you like what you hear on myspace.
Tell them Eldiablo or Mainy sent you.  Wink

I've interviewed them when they were doing the Gypsy Punks tour. Really nice guys. Hutz is really full on and in print he could come across as arrogant, but in reality he's just super confident.
One of the best live bands that I've ever seen.

If you like them you should check out Sami Yaffa's band 'Mad Juanna'

I'm listening to Eagles of Death Metal, Death by Sexy album. Alot of humour in this one - it's good fun. I'm down in Liverpool at the end of the month and noticed they were playing so got tickets.
I'm celebrating a year to the day since I met Mike in Newcastle. One year on and actually, I don't think I've got over it! He was lovely in every way and I gave him a big hug.  Grin Grin Grin A year ago to this moment I was in the venue, probably watching the first support band at this time or thereabouts - it was Hanoi's last UK date  Cry Cry Cry Mo x

I recommend the 69 eyes for obvious reasons.
Its a great band, the guys are supernice to their fans.
And they mention Hanoi in every single interwiev.
So a little rocker in me loves this band.
And Jussi plays drums shirtless in gigs, so there is something to watch to ladies.
And I must tell you, when I was in Tavastiagig, Jyrki spotted ME from the audiience and  came straight to my camera in more than one time.
I have seen the band live 4 times and I hope that there is more to come in this year

69 Eyes are playing Glasgow in March.
I'm a bit busy, but I might try and get along if I can.

A friend sent me a link to his younger brothers solo stuff on myspace and asked me what I thought.
When this happens it's difficult to be as honest as I would prefer to be. I mean no one really wants to rip into a mates band, or even his brothers, but I shouldn't have worried about that at all as the material is very impressive.
It's very sparse and lo-fi. Nothing glam or rock and roll about it, but some people might still get a kick out of the songs.
Best to sit back and listen to them all though.
In the broader context they work best.

These guys ROCK. Think Little Richard on an amphetamine rush and you are getting there.

I'm surprised that there are so few recommendations in this thread.
Mike Monroe seems to me to be an avid rock and roller who wears his influences on his sleeve for all to see. Yet I get the impression (with some exceptions) from the posts on the forum that there is little interest in anything else apart from what Mike does and anything related to him.
Okay. It's a Mike Monroe forum, but this attitude appears to be at odds with the great mans thinking himself.
Where do you think the covers come from that he does? How do you think he finds out about musicians that he works with? How many times has he guested with people and just basically supported the rock world he inhabits?
He does all these things because unlike some so called rock stars he doesn't think he's the centre of the universe with everything revolving around he. He actually participates.
I know this as a fact as I've spoken to plenty of people over the years who have worked with him, and it was confirmed in my eyes the one and only time I was in his company to.
He's a rock and roller at heart and I'd expect nothing less than the same from his fans.
So here is some recommendations from me to you and I sincerely want to hear some opinions about them.
The Jim Jones Revue
Devilish Presley
The Star Spangles
Prima Donna
Tragic City Thieves
These have been just the tip of the iceberg that I have been listening to this week. So what do people think. It takes just a couple of minutes to type their names into the google bar. So what are you waiting for?

I'll echo your sentiments. Not my cup of tea, but I wouldn't break a leg jumping up to turn them off either. Sound a bit like a softer Goo Goo Dolls who I do like.
